As the annual occurrence rate of cancerous lesions in the mouth and the viruses that cause those cancers has grown, it has become increasingly important to strengthen our resources for early detection. Fortunately, the survival rate for oral cancers that are discovered in the early stages is very high.
The Velscope Oral Cancer Screening System was developed by the University of Washington as a very effective aid in the early detection of oral lesions. It can see beneath the surface, detecting any cancerous growth beyond where just a visual exam can see. The examination with the Velscope only takes a few minutes and is pain-free and safe. Unless you are a regular smoker or chewer of tobacco, a yearly exam is all that is needed for this type of Southcenter dentistry.
